Answering the Call of Your Spiritual Gifts
Interview By Brandi Fleck
Psychic medium Suzie Kerr Wright shares how embracing her spiritual gifts transformed fear into purpose and opened the door to a deeper connection with intuition, healing, and the unseen.
This episode has been maintained in loving memory of Suzie Kerr Wright.
Fear has a way of making us question even our deepest truths.
For years, Suzie Kerr Wright tried to make sense of spiritual experiences she couldn't explain. Rather than accepting them, she questioned them, resisted them, and searched for answers.
She opens up abouts how that search led her to astrology, mediumship, and a life devoted to helping others understand their own spiritual path.

Understanding Astrology and Spiritual Guidance
Brandi Fleck: This week's guest is Suzie Kerr Wright, astrologer and psychic medium. She's also a tarot reader, Reiki master, and life coach.
You can find her regularly on The Today Show in Nashville, as well as The Cosmic Coach Show on Sunday mornings on Hippie Radio 94.5 FM. Suzie also calls in weekly to WSCA FM, a radio station in New Hampshire, to read weekly horoscopes. She's affectionately known there as the Cosmic Cupcake.
You can also find Suzie's astrology columns in publications such as Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, Brides magazine, and Elle.
Suzie has been offering readings to clients worldwide for over three decades. She infuses a broad spectrum of spiritual guidance and personal experience to provide her clients with the tools to take charge of their lives and prosper. Suzie also makes regular appearances at festivals, conferences, corporate events, and hosts group events around Nashville and surrounding states.
Suzie is such an amazing person, and I was so excited to get to interview her for the On Being Human podcast. I first met her at a group reading at Kundalini Rising Yoga in Nashville, where she was teaching guests how to use their own intuition and also explaining what it's like to be a psychic medium. I was truly moved by the way she was helping people in the room, helping provide a healing that people were seeking.
In this episode, Suzie opens up about what it's like to be her, how complex it is to learn astrology, what it's like to be a medium, and how it feels to interact with spirit and energy. We discuss everything from hilarious readings she's had in the past to what it's like to be alienated by those who don't understand what she does.
So without further ado, let's dive in and not only open our minds to learn about what it feels like to receive information as a medium, but also to learn about who Suzie is as a person, her journey, and what she loves about life.
Oh, and there is a hilarious story about farts at a reading, you guys, so you do not want to miss it.
Brandi Fleck: Hi, Suzie. Welcome to the show. How are you today?
Suzie Kerr Wright: I'm great. Thank you so much for having me on.
Brandi Fleck: Awesome. I'm so excited to have you here. Your gifts and talents really blow me away. Honestly, the first time I ever saw you was at a group reading at a yoga studio in Nashville last spring, and it was amazing. So I'm just really glad to have you here, and I would love to start off by letting guests know all that you do for a living.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Okay, here goes the whole show.
I do a ton of things. Thank you for that, by the way. I loved doing that event at Kundalini Rising Yoga. I'll never forget that. It was one of the funniest nights, too, because that was the night where names for mediumship can be challenging, and I was getting all the pet names. I couldn't get a human name right, but I was nailing all the pet names, which I thought was really funny. I'll never forget that night. It was awesome.
Anyways, what I do is I'm an astrologer, a psychic medium, I read tarot, I do Reiki. I actually teach and attune Reiki masters. I'm a Reiki master myself, and I'm also a certified life coach.
Brandi Fleck: Oh, wonderful.
Suzie Kerr Wright: I wear many hats.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha.
Suzie Kerr Wright: And it all kind of blends together in my readings. Some of them sound very diverse, but really, when you come to me for a reading, I'm kind of doing a little coaching. The astrology, I do astrology and tarot together. I use them together. They work really well together for me.
And then the mediumship. So yeah, it's kind of interesting.
Brandi Fleck: Okay.
Suzie Kerr Wright: To be in this head.
Brandi Fleck: So what does a day in your life look like?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Well, they vary. It's kind of an interesting thing to think about.
An average day, I guess what I do is I get up and I write because I write a weekly horoscope column. I write for Brides magazine. I write for a lot of blog sites. They have me do a lot of those funny, like, "Top 10 reasons why you should never date an Aries," and that sort of thing.
Brandi Fleck: Yeah.
Suzie Kerr Wright: You know, "What sign is the worst in bed?" That was the one I did for Cosmo, and that thing's been translated into like a thousand different languages. I keep finding it in my Google alerts. It keeps coming up. It's like, "Here's your article again," in German.
Brandi Fleck: Awesome.
Suzie Kerr Wright: So I usually have stuff that I write and, of course, take care of business. Then I see clients all day long. Sometimes I'll go into my office. Sometimes I'll do them from my home office if I have a lot of phone readings or Skype or Zoom or whatever.
Often I do events. I'll go to people's houses and do mediumship gatherings like the one you went to, or I work for a lot of corporate entities that hire me to do company parties and conventions and things.
Brandi Fleck: Okay.
Suzie Kerr Wright: So yeah, my day-to-day varies quite a bit, but it involves all of that. Just about every week I'm doing some or all of it.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha. Well, that sounds really fun.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Never dull, and I put a lot of miles on my car.
Brandi Fleck: I bet. And so I think I know that you started out in astrology. Is that correct?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Yes. That was my first love.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha. So for those who don't know, can you sort of give us an overview of what astrology is and how you're able to read the stars?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Sure.
Yeah, I started, gosh, I must have been maybe 11 or 12. I remember getting my first tarot deck when I was about 11, so I've really been into all of this. Tarot and astrology have kind of gone hand in hand throughout my life, but I always leaned more initially to the astrology piece.
What I found was astrology deals with archetypes and timing and all of these really left-brained kinds of things.
Basically, the concept of astrology is that there are cycles to all the planets, and the planets have these gravitational pulls and gravitational fields, and we are susceptible to them in different ways, and they all have their
Suzie Kerr Wright: ...own individual signatures. So, when we're born, we kind of come into this world with this particular signature, which is our birth chart. Some people believe we choose that chart. Some people believe we're just born and, at that moment, we get that chart and we have to work with it.
Either way, you end up working through the challenges and the strengths and everything that are in your natal chart. Basically, it's like our blueprint for life, which means it's more or less an outline of things. How we choose to express the energies that we have within the chart is what makes us unique and different.
The planets are in certain signs, and that flavors them. For example, if you've got Venus, which is the planet of love, in a sign that is not particularly romantic, you're going to have somebody who doesn't really know how to give and receive love in a romantic way. They may be more practical about it, like if it's Venus in Capricorn or something.
That's how the planets get colored and shaded and changed by what sign they're in. We have all the planets, all the signs in our charts, and how they interact with each other and what signs they're in are what make us who we are.
Somebody who has that combination, say Venus in Capricorn, may come off a little non-romantic, a little practical, but that doesn't mean they can't learn how to be a little more caring, how to be a little more romantic.
So yeah, that was a very bizarre description of what astrology is, I guess. I just went there.
Brandi Fleck: Well, hey, it made sense to me.
I thought so. Are you able to sort of tell people what's in their chart based on certain things about them, or did you have to spend a lot of time learning about the planets and positions and things like that?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Yeah. I've been all up in charts today, bouncing between mediumship and these really intense astrology readings all day, so that's why I just went right into that really intense description.
Basically, everybody knows their sun sign, and that's kind of your outline for who you are. What astrologers look at is your personal dynamic, your personal blueprint. Then we look at where the planets are in the sky. They all have cycles to them, and we have a vast amount of history and recordkeeping on what manifested during these cycles.
So it's kind of this combination of, "Who is this person?" and, "Oh, they're in this type of cycle, and we know that this type of cycle causes this." That's kind of how you put it all together.
It is complex. It's kind of half science, astronomy, and intuitive, because you have to add in the factors of how this person is expressing this particular configuration in their chart. It's not just, "This configuration means this, and when this planet hits that, this is going to happen." It's not like that because of the human free will factor.
With astrology, yeah, it gets pretty deep. But basic sun sign astrology is what really got me hooked. I had this book by a lady named Linda Goodman that I got when I was really young, and it has all the sun signs in it. She actually uses a lot of Alice in Wonderland references to describe the sun signs in each chapter.
I highly recommend it. I tell all my students to read this book because even though it's old and super dated and very misogynistic because it was written in the '60s or something, it's still one of the best interpretations of each of the sun signs.
It broke it down by the general characteristics of the sun sign, the male of that sun sign, the female, the child, and the boss. That book helped me forge relationships with employers and with other people through so much of my young life. It was incredible.
Brandi Fleck: Okay.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Just understanding that archetype and what their needs are and what their expectations are was profoundly life-changing for me because I was a messed-up kid, and I needed all the help I could get.
So yeah, that's why that became my first foray into astrology. It was really learning how to understand other people and what makes them tick based on their sun sign. Then, of course, when they didn't all fit in those categories, my curiosity was just killing me. I was like, "Okay, I've got to figure this out," and that's when I went deeper and deeper and deeper into it.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha. If I ask, you said you were a really messed-up kid. What do you mean by that?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Well, there was a lot going on in my childhood.
Brandi Fleck: Okay.
Suzie Kerr Wright: I kind of came from half an idyllic, perfect childhood, and then there was kind of that monster. There was abuse in my family and that sort of thing.
So I got very rebellious very young, trying to break away from the stuff that was happening. This kind of gave me an outlet to help understand. Of course, the more I delved into it and started looking at my own chart, the more I realized, "Oh, these are some challenges and things that I have to deal with." It's like, "These are legit things."
It really helped me understand myself as well. But yeah, I was bullied. I did not have an idyllic childhood.
It's funny. I've actually had people say that to me, like, "Oh, you're just so fortunate. You were born with a silver spoon." I'm like, "Are you kidding me? You have no idea what went on in my life." It's just that I don't wear it anymore. It's not my badge of honor. It made me who I am. It made me strong, but it's the past.
Brandi Fleck: Yeah.
Suzie Kerr Wright: So I've got nothing to hide, but it's one of those things that's so far behind me now that I don't wear it, I guess.
Brandi Fleck: Sure. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
You mentioned mediumship a little bit with things that you've done today. It's funny because you said you bounced around between astrology and mediumship today, and my next question is: What is mediumship and the different types of intuition, and how is mediumship different from being psychic?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Whoa. Those are loaded questions.
Okay, the short version is that mediumship is conversing with spirit. It's conversing with those who have passed on to the other side.
Brandi Fleck: Okay.
Suzie Kerr Wright: You are literally having a conversation with them. They are in an energy form, and you are connecting. You are raising your vibration to meet them at their vibration, and you literally have a conversation with them. It's pretty wild.
It's very different than being psychic. We were talking about this. I host a monthly mediumship and intuitive development circle, and that was one of the topics we talked about last night.
There is a distinct difference between psychic work and mediumship, and it's getting very blurred right now because, with a lot of people waking up and having experiences, people are mistaking their experiences with mediumistic-type events.
Meaning, "Oh, I felt my grandmother. I heard my name. I heard her call my name. I smell my grandfather's pipe. I just know my dad knocked that picture off the wall."
Those are all mediumistic experiences, but those don't mean that you're a medium.
A lot of people who have been working in the psychic realm have those experiences, and then they call themselves mediums. It's like, no, they're two totally different things.
All mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha. And the difference is?
Suzie Kerr Wright: In the psychic realm, it's a different vibration, and you're gaining information from your client's guides or their energy or whatever it is that you're reading, whatever you're connecting with. It's a totally different experience.
You can still gain information. I always say you can tell a client, "Oh, I know your mom had this. I see your mom had this red coat," and that may be accurate. Psychically, you picked that up. They were thinking about their mom's red coat or whatever. It's in their energy.
The way a medium would present that is, "I have your mom here. She moves closer. I see she's wearing this red coat. She's telling me that your dad gave her that red coat, and it meant the world to her."
It's a whole different experience.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha.
Suzie Kerr Wright: That's what it would sound like on the outside. What it feels like on the inside is really different. I just know when I switch back and forth between the two. Mediumship is a very high vibration, and it's very different.
Brandi Fleck: Okay. Can you describe for us how information comes to you, I guess in the mediumship scenario? What does it feel like, look like, sound like? Those types of things.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Yeah. It comes in many different ways.
The psychic piece of it is clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, the clear seeing, hearing, and feeling.
When I connect with spirit, somebody who was living comes through from the other side. They show me things. They can make me feel things. One of my favorite things to feel is the unconditional love that they send for their loved ones. It's like my entire body just tingles, and it feels so pure and so light. It's just amazing.
Sometimes they'll give me a poke in the stomach. It's like, "Oh yeah, somebody had something going on here." I'll feel it in their stomach.
"Oh yes, my dad died of colon cancer," or whatever.
So it comes in all different ways. As a medium, we're kind of using all the clairs. Sometimes I smell things. I hate the taste one. The taste one is not my favorite.
I don't know if this is too crude to put on there, but you can edit it out if it is. I was thinking about this today. I remember the time I was reading for somebody, and all of a sudden I started smelling really bad farts.
And it was gross. I'm looking for my dog. I'm like, "My dog isn't in the room. What's happening here? This is gross."
It was just really rank, and there was a certain smell to it. I literally described this to this woman, and she started howling. She was laughing and crying at the same time.
He was notorious for letting these ones rip at people, and that was his thing. I mean, that was literally how he came through.
Brandi Fleck: That's funny.
Suzie Kerr Wright: You know, or the smokers. I can taste the smoke sometimes.
Sometimes I'll hear it, like clear hearing. "Tell them this. Tell them I love them. Tell them they need to get their car looked at," or whatever.
It's so funny. Dads will always come through and give advice to their daughters. It's hilarious.
So yeah, it kind of comes in all different ways.
Brandi Fleck: Sure. So to pivot a little bit, less about your career and more just about how you're doing, what's your life like today otherwise, and how are you doing?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Really well. I've been very, very busy, which I like. I'm kind of a workaholic.
Hardest-working woman in metaphysics.
Because I'm all over the place. I love to do many, many, many things, and this is a calling for me. My whole life revolves around it.
It's funny. When I was in the corporate world, I learned the hard way that I was not my job. I always identified with my jobs, and when I left that world, I said, "Never again will I allow myself to be what my job is."
But what's odd about this kind of work is it is my life. It touches every aspect of my life.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha.
Suzie Kerr Wright: I've had to delegate some of that out. I've got an assistant now, and I've got somebody that works on my website and all that, so at least I don't have to do that stuff anymore.
But I love doing radio. I love doing podcasts. I love doing television. I get to do a lot of that stuff.
This year I'm trying to get out and travel more. We're booking things now that I've got somebody who can handle all of this stuff for me. She's making calls and scheduling me at different places that I want to go, out of Tennessee.
So it's really fun. Now I'm going to get out and see new faces and new places, while still serving everybody here in Nashville that I can.
Brandi Fleck: Great. So what do you like to do? What are your hobbies, and how do you approach life?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Wow. How do I approach life?
All in is what I would say.
Brandi Fleck: Yeah.
Suzie Kerr Wright: All in. Life's too darn short to not go all in.
My hobbies? That's another whole world. Paddleboarding. I'm obsessed with paddleboarding.
Brandi Fleck: Okay.
Suzie Kerr Wright: I absolutely love it. I got into that a few years ago, and I just love it. I live for getting out on the water.
What else do I love? I love to play music. I love to sing. I have a collection of ukuleles.
Brandi Fleck: Oh!
Suzie Kerr Wright: I go to ukulele jams and belong to this little ukulele group. We go out and play at senior centers and stuff.
Brandi Fleck: That's awesome.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Yeah. I never gave up the music.
When I moved to Nashville, I moved here to be a singer, and within the first couple of years I just wrecked my voice. I mean, I wrecked it. I struggled so hard to get it back, and I never did. It never came back the way it was. It was never going to. There were a number of circumstances that happened that changed it permanently besides the damage I did to it.
So I got really discouraged, and I moped around for a couple of years. Then I decided to learn how to play drums.
Now, I did that for a long time, and that was kind of fun because no one told me I couldn't, so I did.
I got in so many bands. I went farther playing drums than I ever did in all the years of singing, and all I ever wanted to be from the time I was a kid was a singer.
It was pretty wild. That taught me a lot. It taught me that when you don't put limitations on yourself and don't worry about what people think, you can do ten times more than you ever imagined.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Could you know? Sure.
So that was a really interesting thing. I still play a little bit. I don't play as much anymore. A lot of the little bands that we were in just kind of fizzled out, and some people died, so stuff happens. But yeah, I still play once in a while, and I still sing.
But the ukes, yeah, I'm kind of into the ukes now.
Brandi Fleck: Awesome. So what do you believe the most important thing in life is?
Suzie Kerr Wright: You know, I've got to say it's something that my mom said. I'll probably think of something way more profound and brilliant after we end this.
Never give up.
Never give up because there's always a miracle just around the corner. Always.
If there's one thing that I am, it's resilient. Like I said, one of these days I hope to be able to sit down and write a book about some of the crap I've been through because people that know me now wouldn't believe it.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha.
Suzie Kerr Wright: There were some pretty dark, dark times, but I never gave up. I never gave up on my dreams. I never gave up. Even when I thought I did, I really hadn't.
I can look back and go, "Wow, there was still this desire to just eat life up."
Brandi Fleck: Yeah.
Suzie Kerr Wright: So yeah, I would say that would be my message.
Brandi Fleck: Well, I like it.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Yeah. And I always kept learning. Never stop learning. Never stop learning. Keep your brain going.
Brandi Fleck: So how does your life's work impact your personal relationships?
Suzie Kerr Wright: It's made some of them difficult.
I've had a lot of friendships since before I started doing this full-time. I went full-time about 11 years ago, but this has actually been something I've done my whole life.
I've shared this before. This is how long I know I've been working in this. When John Lennon died, I was sitting in my apartment in New York. I had just finished drawing out somebody's chart because we didn't have computers back then to do it. I had my cards out, and I was about to do a reading for them when somebody came busting in the door and said, "John Lennon died."
So that's how you know. Obviously, I had to have been doing it longer than that to know how to cast a chart at that point.
It's always been a part of who I am, but when I went full-time, what I noticed was a few things that I didn't like.
I have really good friends because they respect my boundaries, and they don't ask for free readings. They never would do that. But what they also don't do is include me in activities that they do because they've kind of put me in this category of, "Oh, she's my reader now. She's my psychic friend, not my friend friend."
Brandi Fleck: Okay.
Suzie Kerr Wright: I have a lot of friends who are still very close friends. We would do anything for each other. But that was one of the surprising things that happened.
It really kind of bummed me out because I'm like, "Why are these people not calling me?"
"Well, we thought you were busy."
"We thought... we didn't want to impose on you."
It's like, wow, what happened here?
Brandi Fleck: Yeah.
Suzie Kerr Wright: So in that way, it impacted me, and I didn't really like that.
But I am busy a lot.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha.
Suzie Kerr Wright: You know there's a meme that's going around. It's like, "I just want people to invite me to things, even though I'm not going to go."
Brandi Fleck: Yeah.
Suzie Kerr Wright: That's me.
But one of the things, I think I kind of set that precedent because I had this particularly interesting transit happen right as I was going into this full-time. It really kind of took me out of the loop of every friendship for about two and a half years. I was just all out working.
Brandi Fleck: Okay.
Suzie Kerr Wright: I think when I was ready, when the transit was over, I kind of was calling everybody, going, "Hey, you out there?"
They're like, "Yeah, come on over."
But I think I'd already set the precedent of, "I'm busy."
I've made a lot of really amazing, powerful lightworker friends.
My poor husband, bless his heart. He married an HR professional and ended up with someone who talks to dead people.
He's handled the transition really well.
Brandi Fleck: That's good.
Suzie Kerr Wright: We've been married 17 years so far.
Brandi Fleck: Awesome.
Suzie Kerr Wright: He's really supportive. He's amazing.
But we go places, and I always have to be mindful. It's like, "Okay, should I talk about my stuff in this circumstance here, or just leave it alone?"
Brandi Fleck: Sure.
Can you tell us your story from beginning to end on how your calling came about? When did the journey start where you realized things were happening, and how did you learn what it was and how to handle it?
How Birth Charts Reveal Personality and Life Purpose
Suzie Kerr Wright: Well, I don't mean to sound hokey about it, but I was born into this. This was always what I loved.
Back in the '60s, I was fascinated by people who, we called them mind readers back then.
Like I said, when I was really young, I was always attracted to the things that weren't real, things that weren't really here.
I know every kid in the '60s had a Ouija board, but when other kids were bored with it and didn't want to play with it anymore, I still stuck with it.
I'd always seen ghosts. I'd always had people popping in on me in random places my whole life, and it really scared the crap out of me.
That's why I didn't want to do mediumship. I really didn't want to be a medium, but I was, and I always have been.
Astrology was a passion. Reading the tarot, too. Back when I started, it was to tell people's fortunes, which that's not what it is anymore.
Brandi Fleck: Sure.
Suzie Kerr Wright: It never wasn't in my life, Brandi. It was just always there. I ran from it for a lot of years. It scared the heck out of me.
In my dark years, the drinking and drugging and all that stuff, I would get the cards out and read for people, and I would just freak out about how I knew this stuff. I started questioning, "Where am I getting this information? Is this coming from the devil?"
I had no spiritual confines to work in.
Brandi Fleck: Could you?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Sure. That was a really interesting thing. I still play a little bit. I don't play as much anymore. A lot of the little bands we were in just kind of fizzled out, and some people died, so stuff happens.
But yeah, I still play once in a while, and I still sing. But the ukes, yeah, I'm kind of into the ukes now.
Finding Purpose Through Resilience and Lifelong Learning
Brandi Fleck: Awesome. So what do you believe the most important thing in life is?

Growing Into Mediumship and Psychic Ability
Can you tell us your story from beginning to end on how your calling came about? When did the journey start where you realized things were happening, and how did you learn what it was and how to handle it?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Well, I don't mean to sound hokey about it, but I was born into this. This was always what I loved.
Back in the '60s, I was fascinated by people who... we called them mind readers back then.
Like I said, when I was really young, I was always attracted to the things that weren't really here.
I had no spiritual framework to work within.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha.
Suzie Kerr Wright: I was lacking the spiritual side of it, but I had a deep understanding of people, and I had a deep connection to divination and, again, the spirit world.
So it was really unsettling and unnerving for me in a lot of ways, but I never stopped doing it. Like I said, with the tarot cards, I'd get them out every now and then and do some readings, freak myself out, freak out other people, put them away for a while, and then be like, "No, I need to work with this."
It really wasn't until probably the '80s when I started finding teachers because there were no metaphysical stores around. There was one in New York, I remember, that had a really funny sign on the door that said, "If you don't agree with what we do in here, then stay the F out."
It was literally this handwritten sign. I will never forget it.
Brandi Fleck: Wow.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Because they took so much flak for what they were doing.
But there weren't teachers everywhere. There were just books. So I read and I read and I read and I read. I studied and I learned and I memorized and practiced the best I could by myself or with my friends.
The journey just always was, and it always will be.
Really, in the '80s, when I finally started finding people who understood this stuff and started explaining the higher concepts and where all this was coming from, then it really exploded because I was comfortable in it.
I found a higher power that I could trust, and from that point on it was like, "Okay, we're in."
Setting Spiritual Boundaries and Protecting Your Energy
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha. So now you work within a spiritual framework, I guess. How do you protect yourself from negative energy and things like that?
Suzie Kerr Wright: The simple answer is I just don't allow it.
I don't allow it. It's not welcome in my world.
Brandi Fleck: Okay.
Suzie Kerr Wright: That is not my heart. I don't have room for that.
So much of what we do in this metaphysical world is visualization and intention-setting. My intention is... I ask angels, spirit guides, and, of course, loved ones when I'm doing mediumship to come through.
I think it was kind of natural for me to have these boundaries where it's like, "You're not welcome here if you're not in the light."
There were times, sure. They say that people who have gone deep into alcohol and drugs are possessed by dark entities, and I kind of believe that.
So I can't say my energy was clean my entire life, but it certainly is now. I have a very strong spiritual program, and there's nothing that's getting between me and God.
Sorry.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Just nothing. When you've got God on your side, baby, you've got everything. Nothing can touch you.
Brandi Fleck: Awesome.
My next question was actually, what do you have to say about how your own spirituality plays into what you do? Is there anything else you can add to that?
Suzie Kerr Wright: No, not really. That's it.
I pray. I connect. I know the energy. I've been in contact with all kinds of people all the time. I know when something's coming through that's not real good.
Brandi Fleck: Gotcha.
Suzie Kerr Wright: But it ain't getting in this bubble. It's just not coming in.
Navigating Judgment Around Spiritual Practices
Brandi Fleck: Some folks are scared of the unknown and might be afraid of your life's work and things like that. I've talked to people who are worried about Reiki and mediumship and tarot, and they might even think it's evil.
Do you run into this, and what do you say to that?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Oh yeah, all the time.
I'm not one who believes in trying to prove a point. It's kind of like, I really don't care what you believe. I will never try to change your mind. That is not what I'm here to do.
I'm here to serve people who want to come for this kind of healing, for these services, these things that I do.
I know the power of it. I know how incredibly life-changing an astrological reading can be or a mediumship session. I mean, just profoundly life-changing.
Years of guilt and shame and pain and misunderstanding yourself can be washed away by this stuff.
So I understand that, and I'm the only one that needs to know that, really.
If you want it, it's here.
But I would never go to somebody and say, "You have to believe this. You're stupid if you don't. You're going to hell if you don't believe what I believe."
Brandi Fleck: Sure.
Suzie Kerr Wright: I can't imagine being that, in some cases, hateful. That people would demand that somebody think their way. I just can't imagine that.
I've got pretty strong opinions, but I just couldn't go there.
In fact, I was asked to leave an event. I was asked to be at the event, and I paid to be at the event. While I was doing my readings, I was asked to leave by someone who said, "We are a Christian organization, and we don't believe in tarot reading."
He didn't even give me the option of staying to see the event that was going on.
Brandi Fleck: Wow.
Suzie Kerr Wright: He just made me leave, and he stood there until I left, petrified of what I stood for. Angry, raging, seething. He couldn't wait for me to get out, like I was something purely satanic.
It was unbelievable.
The funny thing was the people next to me in the tent were total pagans.
I was like, "Oh God."
Brandi Fleck: What did you do?
Suzie Kerr Wright: I left.
See, that's the thing. Boy, that could have gotten me... I could have called the ACLU, and that would have been big news for months. We'd still be talking about it.
But you know what? He's entitled to his opinion.
I found out he really had no right to throw me out. As a matter of fact, I got a big apology from the girl who had actually asked me to be there.
But what would that do? It's not going to change his mind. He's still going to feel the way he does.
Had I known he wasn't allowed to ask me to do that, I would have stayed. But I just felt, well, he's telling me he's in charge of it, and I'm just going to go.
What am I going to do? I'm not going to have a big argument about it. I'm not going to make a big fuss.
He's convicted in his beliefs, and they conflict with who I am. I'm just going to go. I don't want to be around hate like that.
I've literally had... When I first moved here, I was singing at this church. It was a non-denominational service on Sunday mornings.
I'd been there for a while, and I had some business cards made up. One day, one of the ladies in the congregation asked me for my card. It said "Vocal Artist and Astrologer" on it.
I handed it to her, and her face just dropped. It was like she was looking at Satan himself.
I had never seen anything like it. She just backed away from me, and she never spoke to me again.
I'd talked to this woman. We'd gone to lunch together. She was like, "Give me your card."
So yeah, I've dealt with the hate. It's not fun.
But everybody has their beliefs, and it is what it is.
Brandi Fleck: Sure.
Memorable Mediumship Readings and Psychic Experiences
To pivot to something that's a little less heavy, can you give us some examples or fun stories of interesting things that have happened that really stick out in your mind with certain clients or groups?
Suzie Kerr Wright: Well, the fart reading was by far at the top. That was one of the big ones.
I think mediumship has been a source of amusement and amazement to me. Some of the people that I've met on the other side and the stories that I've heard about them have been hilarious.
Oh my gosh. Let me think.
I channeled Elvis's drummer.
Brandi Fleck: That's awesome.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Yeah. That was pretty cool.
That was at the theater. I was doing a thing there, and I kept saying, "Boy, people really like him. He feels like he's really popular, but he's really mellow."
I could see the guy's face and everything. It was so cool.
I had no idea who he was. I had to Google him afterward when she told me he was Elvis's drummer.
So I couldn't have made that one up because I just did not know.
Even my husband was like, "That's not Elvis's drummer."
I'm like, "Well, let's Google and see."
I got his name, and we did.
I'm like, "Look. He was."
"Oh my God."
I love when I tell somebody something is going to happen and they look at me and go, and this happens a lot, "I don't think so. No, that's not going to happen. I don't see that happening."
I'm like, "Honey, you're talking to somebody who is predicting for you. We're predicting something, so you can't see it yet. That's my job."
Then they come back two months, three months, six months later, and they're like, "Oh my God. Everything happened just as you said."
I literally had one a couple of weeks ago. She called me up and said, "I don't know if you remember me, but I had a reading with you five years ago."
I had no idea who she was. She said, "And I hated it."
I'm like, "Oh my God. I'm so sorry. What did I say?"
She said, "You didn't say anything wrong. I didn't like what you told me. But let me tell you, it took a while, and you told me it would, but every single thing happened the way you said it would."
It was all relationship stuff. She said, "Now I'm in another predicament, so I'm calling you. I will never doubt you again."
Brandi Fleck: That's funny.
Something I ask every guest on the show to sort of wrap things up is, what does being human mean to you?
What It Means to Be Beautifully Flawed
Suzie Kerr Wright: I guess the easiest way to answer that is I believe that we are spiritual beings having a human experience.
The human part of that involves our flaws, our mistakes, our feelings, the depth of our feelings, the breadth of our joy that we have on this planet.
All of that is, to me, what being human means.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Being human is understanding that we are connected to a greater source, that we're all a reflection of that greater source, but also that we are not perfect.
We are beautifully flawed. I think that, to me, is what being here is all about. We get to experience life in its fullest.
Brandi Fleck: I really like it. That's awesome.
So last but not least, where can people find you? What's your website? Do you have any events coming up? If people want to get a reading or anything like that, can they subscribe to a newsletter? All that good stuff.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Yes, all of that.
Brandi Fleck: Awesome.
Suzie Kerr Wright: One thing I've had to learn over the years is how to market.
I do have a newsletter I send out once a month. I do not share your information with anybody. I do not sell my mailing list.
Sometimes I don't even get a newsletter out. I hate to admit it, but... human.
You'll get a newsletter about once a month and, every now and then, a special announcement about something.
I have weekly horoscopes that you can subscribe to for free.
My website is astrogirl12.com. Don't forget the 12 because there are other Astro Girls out there. Think 12 signs, 12 houses.
It has everything on it. It has all of my contact information. I currently have a radio show running on Hippie Radio. It's spiritually based.
I teach. I have a lot of classes here and there at different stores around town. You can get all that information on my Facebook page, which is AstroGirl Suzie. Just go to the Events tab. That's the first place I put all the events. They don't always get out to my website anymore.
Unfortunately, Facebook used to have a feature where if you posted something on Facebook, it would automatically link to your website, and they don't do that anymore.
So if you're just looking for events, go to my Facebook page.
I'm also on Instagram under my name, Suzie Kerr Wright. The monthly Mediumship and Intuitive Development Circle is wonderful. Any level. If you're brand new, not sure what's going on in your head, think you're crazy, come on in.
We do all kinds of fun stuff. Everybody works at their own level psychically. Some are mediums. Most are psychic. Some have really unique ways of connecting with spirit and bringing messages through.
Everybody works at their own level. It's really fun. It's a good, safe place to come and ask questions. We have a lot of discussion and a lot of people with some really good ideas.
Once a month I also have a monthly event at the Black Box Theater in Centennial Park.
This month I'm doing something different. A lot of times I'll do a mediumship group reading there, but this month I'm going to do an astrological event.
We're going to talk about what transits are coming up in 2019 and ways that you can work with the energy. We'll break it down by sign.
You'll find out, for example, if you're looking to change jobs this year, whether it's a good year for you to do that, or find a relationship, and things like that.
It's not going to be personal readings, but I'm going to give everybody a heads-up on what the energies are going to be best for and also teach you a little bit about how astrology works and give you a basic understanding of it.
So that's going to be fun. It's the first time I'm doing something like that on that scale.
Brandi Fleck: Awesome.
Suzie Kerr Wright: I'm pretty excited. It's like a little mini TED Talk, sort of, but without all the fancy slides and the way they hold their hands, you know, the pattern they have with their hands when they point.
Brandi Fleck: Yeah.
Suzie Kerr Wright: I won't be doing that, but you will definitely learn a lot, and it will be fun.
Brandi Fleck: Awesome. It sounds fun.
Guys, you heard that. All of those cool links will be in the show notes, so make sure you go check those out after you listen to this episode.
Suzie, thank you so much for coming on the show today. This has been a really fun episode.
Suzie Kerr Wright: Awesome. Thank you. You're an awesome host.
Brandi Fleck: Yay! Thank you. I really enjoyed this.
